Vi Nguyen, 35, human personification of a sunbeam, died by suicide on Tuesday, February 7, 2023. She is survived by her spouse Eich Nguyen-Levine, her siblings Vân, Duy, & Trang, her parents Dung and Kahn, her nieces and nephews, her beloved dog Artie, and a wide community of loved ones in Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, and across the world.
Vi was the sweetest weirdo you would ever meet. She was a reader, an artist, and a wonderful cook who mastered cuisines the world over. Vi made her friends into family over bowls of scratch-made soup, robust brunches, or elaborate desserts. To be in Vi's kitchen was to be comfortable and tended to, fed well, and loved. She made excellent playlists and gorgeous artwork. She loved bizarre jokes and foraging for mushroom friends.
Vi enjoyed trying new restaurants and hiking old forests. She adventured around the country and across the world, but she particularly loved being in nature wherever she found herself. She always had her eye on the next trip or the next trail.
Vi's vocation was making people feel safe - in their homes, in their skin, in their lives. Her career included Lush Cosmetics and several furniture chains, but her personality crossed perfectly with her career when she decided to pivot in 2019 and return to school to study aesthetics. She then accepted a position at the Gloss Society, where she made many new connections and spread joy. Vi specialized in personalized facials and body-positive waxing, in making people feel comfortable in their own skin.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Trevor Project, www.thetrevorproject.org, or Outdoor Asian, www.outdoorasian.com. To honor her, we suggest you participate in some self-care and let the sun shine on your face (but don't forget the sunscreen.) Friends are invited to gather at Wolfe Memorial, LLC, 3604 Greensburg Pike, Pittsburgh PA 15221, on Saturday, February 18, from 2:00 to 7:00pm.
Vi loved to make people feel safe and comfortable. The world has lost her bright light. She will be missed and loved forever.
