Reverend Carl J. Gentile
Age 88, peacefully, on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, met his Lord and Savior. Born and raised in Homestead. Beloved son of the late Caterina Logozzo Gentile and Carlo Gentile. Loving brother of the late Amelia Tirpak (the late Dr. Edward Tirpak) and the late Anthony Gentile. Brother of Nicholas Gentile (Geraldine), Rina Thomas (the late Edgar Thomas), and Dr. Anthony F. Gentile. Uncle of Nancy, Patricia, Laura, Edward, Nicholas, Ann, Vincent, Stephen, Renee, Joanna, Kristin, Mark, Carlyn, Erin, and Natalie. Also many great nieces and great nephews.
Reverend Gentile served as Parochial Vicar at Saint Joseph Parish in Verona from 1960-1970, Director of the Mission Office at the Diocese of Pittsburgh Pastoral Center from 1970-1975, Administrator at Saint Vincent De Paul Parish from 1972-1973, Pastor of Saint Catherine of Siena Parish from 1974-1984, Pastor at Saint Alphonsus Parish from 1984-1994, Pastor at Saint John Fisher Parish from 1994-2010, Administrator at Saint John Fisher Parish from 2010-2011 and from 2011-2018.
Friends and family will be received at Wolfe Memorial, LLC, Forest Hills Chapel, 3600 Greensburg Pike, Pittsburgh PA 15221, on Thursday, September 21, and Friday, September 22, from 2-4 & 6-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 23, 10am at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, St. John Fisher Church, Bishop David A. Zubik Celebrant, where an additional viewing will be held for an hour beginning at 9am. EVERYONE PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH. He will be laid to rest privately in St. Mary Magdalene Cemetery, Munhall, with his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John Fisher Church, checks made out to St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 2001 Ardmore Boulevard, Pittsburgh PA 15221.
