Phyllis Szoko

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis Szoko, 86, of Churchill Borough, Pennsylvania. Phyllis died at home surrounded by her family on Saturday, March 16, 2024. The loss of the family Matriarch who encouraged her children to pursue education, healthy competition, strong values, and the love of God. Beloved wife of 62 years to the late Edward Szoko. Daughter of the late Florence and Donato Ferriero of Wilkinsburg. Loving and devoted mother to her children Dr. Michael Edward Szoko of Wilkins Township and Lisa (Szoko) McCastain and her husband, Steve, of Milledgeville, Georgia. A treasured Grammy to Michael D. Friday, III, Alyssa B. (Friday) Velez and her husband Anthony J. Velez, and Michael E. Szoko, II (Mother, Mary Safran). Sister of the late Joseph M. Ferriero, Slyvia Hendershot, Jenny Caputo, Maria Ferriero, Arlene Cumberledge, and Geraldine Boulding. Phyllis was an accomplished, classically trained pianist and worked for 32 years at The Churchill Vision and Laser Center. An avid "A" level tennis player, Phyllis enjoyed her ranking through the Allegheny Mountain Tennis Association and competitive games with her many friends at racquet clubs and country clubs throughout the region. A friend to many, forever loved and missed by those she touched.
