Cheryl DeVay Obituary

Cheryl S. DeVay, age 69, died peacefully on Thursday, September 15, 2022, at Jefferson Regional Hospital. While Cheryl had most recently resided at Primrose Apartments in North Versailles for the past 6 years, she loved Pittsburgh, and especially North Braddock where she was born and raised. 

Cheryl was a dear daughter of the late Elmer and Irene DeVay. Loving sister of Irene Ann (DeVay) Owens of Florida and sister-in-law of James R. Owens, Sr. of Florida.

Cheryl is survived by nephews James Owens, Jr. (MaryJo) of Murrysville and Brian Owens (Jessica) of Florida; treasured grand-nephews Christopher Owens of Murrysville and Michael Owens of Mount Lebanon and grand-niece Kennedy Owens of Florida; and great grand-nephew Carter Owens of Murrysville. She is also survived by first cousins Kathy (DeVay) Handza, Debbie (DeVay) Cushey, Tammy (DeVay) Wolff, Christine (Dudas) Crousey, Arlene (Dudas) Stewart, Beverly (Dudas) Cox, and Yvette DeVay.

Cheryl was a longtime employee of Giant Eagle – Kennywood store. She was a member of Good Shepherd Parish in Braddock and the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association. She was a past Volunteer Social Director at Shady Park Place of North Braddock. She was an appointed Voting & Elections Poll check-in clerk serving her local community district for many years. Cheryl was a local sports fan and particularly enjoyed watching Pitt, the Penguins & Steelers.

Friends and family are invited to attend a graveside service at Monongahela Cemetery of North Braddock, 1111 4th Street, on Monday, September 26, 2022 at 9:00am. Please meet near the cemetery office.

Cheryl’s family extends deep appreciation to the staff at Southwestern Nursing and Rehabilitation Center located in West Mifflin and the Palliative Care – ICU staff at AGH Jefferson Hospital in West Mifflin, especially Jason Rodemoyer, DO. who brought Cheryl care and comfort and for his invaluable assistance and guidance during this difficult time.
