Sylvia Shiner, gifted musician and teacher, passed peacefully of natural causes on Friday, August 10, 2018. The Forest Hills resident is preceded in death by her father, noted trombonist Matty Shiner, mother LaVerne McGuire Shiner, and husband, Robert Bock. Sylvia’s love for music was surpassed only by her dedication to education, acting as music teacher for South Park School District. She also offered private lessons to students at low or no cost so children of all economic backgrounds would have the same opportunity to excel. When not in the classroom, Sylvia was active in the PSEA. She enjoyed traveling to exotic locations, or dabbling in amateur archaeology at a Southwestern Desert dig. Sylvia is survived by students, relatives, friends and colleagues.
Friends received at Wolfe Memorial, LLC, 3604 Greensburg Pike, Forest Hills PA 15221, on Wednesday 2-4 and 6-8pm.
