BERTHA CHRISTY SPRAGUE

On April 15, 2018, Age 99, of Penn Hills. Bertha was born in Pittsburgh on August 28, 1918. She was proceeded in death by George, her husband of 74 years; her mother Jennie Russell Christy; her father Harvey Newton Christy; her sister Ruth Christy Gumto and her brother Russell Newton Christy. She was the mother of three children: George, Jr. (Mitzi) Sprague of Jacksonville, FL; Carol J. Sprague of Penn Hills; and Shirley Sprague (Paul) Johnson of Allison Park. She also leaves 7 grandchildren: Michael, Mark, Marsha, Michelle, Josh, Brad and Drew; 8 great grandchildren with 2 more due this summer; and wonderful nieces and nephews. Bertha was a loving wife, and devoted mother who cherished her family and friends. A member of the Eastern Star she was also an active member of Rosedale United Methodist Church. She dedicated her life to her family and in service to others. Bertha cooked and delivered meals on wheels in Penn Hills well into her 80s and was involved in many church activities and committees. Bertha will be deeply missed; but was blessed with a long and fulfilling life. You are welcome to Celebrate Her Life at the Wolfe Memorial Funeral Home, Forest Hills Chapel, 3604 Greensburg Pike, Pittsburgh, PA 15221, at a visitation Wednesday 6-8pm; and Thursday 10am until time of service at 11 am.
