Besides sharing a first name and mutual friends, both Mark and I recognized in each other kindred spirits. My heart goes out to Mark's family. I will continue to draw from Mark's passion for life, nature and understanding

We were so sad to hear of Mark's passing. He's been a good neighbor for many years. We had the opportunity to spend some time with him at his Marquette home several years ago while we were traveling in the UP. Of late, we've caught up with him when he's been out walking the dogs. He was always interested in what was going on in our lives. He was a good man, and we'll miss him.

So sorry to hear of Mark passing. We were friends from the Dead River Basin in Negaunee, Michigan. I met Mark when he was an instructor for the DNR Becoming and OutdoorsWoman Conference. His zest for life and passion for teaching outdoors skills was infectious! He will be remembered for his kind smile and easy ways. With much love, Laura

Mark has been a friend, colleague, and inspiration since Leslie and I met him in 2000. Our years spent in Roscommon with Mark, whether it was ice fishing on Higgins Lake or paddling down the AuSable River, were the best! Each day with Mark whether locked in great conversation, hiking Rocky Mountain National Park in a blizzard, or even at work, was truly a gift. We can't think of anyone we loved being around more than Mark. His glorious smile would pick you up on the grayest of days. Although we will dearly miss Mark, he will continue to be in our thoughts and lives every day. Going back through dozens of emails, I think Mark said it best when he told me this in August 2014:
“You do only live once, indeed! Live it well.” – Mark MacKay
Thank you to the MacKay family and Deborah for sharing with us this precious gift and know our thoughts are with you now and always.
