Barbara Owen
Age 82, previously of Penn Hills, went to be with the Lord suddenly on Wednesday, March 30, 2016. Daughter of Dr. Clifford Bryce and Ruth Garbett Bryce. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, husband Randall James Owen, Jr, and sister Shirley Bryce Peckman (Col. Dale). She is survived by brother Rev. Bruce Bryce (Anne). Devoted mother to Randall James Owen, III (Gigi) and Jeffrey Randall Owen (Dawn). Proud grandmother of Randall “RJ” Owen, IV (Marty), Gregory Owen (Lauren), Jennifer Owen (Cory Cope), Philip Owen (Makayla), Rebecca Peffer (Craig), Scott Owen (Kelly), Kristin Owen, and Alissa Nickell (Chris); adoring great-grandmother to Quinn, James, William, Eleanor, and baby Nickell. She was born in McKeesport, PA, where she graduated from McKeesport High School and was a member of the marching band. She was a proud alumna of the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, and never let her husband forget when Pitt played his alma mater, Penn State (and won). She worked as a head nurse at Magee Hospital and in the Penn Hills School District for more than 20 years. She was an active member and Elder of Beulah Presbyterian Church, where she sang with the choir and formed life long friendships with members of her bible study group. She was later a member of New Covenant Presbyterian Church; she enjoyed the symphony for many seasons and was an active member of her residence communities. Viewing will take place on Monday, April 4 from 2:00-4:00 pm and 6:00-8:00 pm at Wolfe Memorial Inc.., Forest Hills Chapel, 3604 Greensburg Pike, 412-731-5001. A celebration of her life will be held at Beulah Presbyterian Church, on Tuesday at 10:00 am followed by interment alongside her husband at Churchill Cemetery.
